vinyl tile

jboy Nov 23, 2004 12:38 PM

I am building a cage for my bearded dragons and I have a roll of that vinyl fake tile stuff that I want to line the cage with, to give it a nicer look and to make it easy to clean. I am not sure what I should use to glue it on though. I don't want to use something that will give off fumes and kill my beardies. Any suggestions?

I doubt if you will find a vinyl adhesive that does'nt give off fumes that are toxic to beardies...or humans.
However...if you let it dry throroughly, and let it gas off, it should be safe within 7-14 days.
Once totally cured, there should be no fumes.
But, when it is heated it may release fumes again...Therefore...
Build your enclosure...install the floor...then run your heatlamps to finish the curing process. When you can no longer smell the adhesive, you can safely put your animal in it.
Also note...a thin skim of adhesive is all you need. That in itself should speed up the process.

you first ask about vinyl tile then refer to a sheet. are you talking about VCT or linoleum sheeting? If it is VCT, I wouldn't recccomend it - only because you'll have a bunch of seams where the moisture could seep through. but yeah, i think its a 1/8" v-notch trowel you use to put the linoleum or VCT down with.

thats a tile basically, id reccomend to go down to home depot and get a seam seal, its basically a fingernail polish and goes along the seams...keeps stuff from getting underneath it and peeling up.

I would purchase linoleum sheeting. You can get remnants in various sizes at any do it yourself/home improvement store. Also, when you apply the floor adhesive, apply thincoat and let dry to the point of being tacky, then install the floor covering. This will also help dry and provide a better hold.
