beardies nighttime ritual?

DjZiOn Nov 23, 2004 01:29 PM

ok so a few care sheets and books i read before getting a beardie said that a hide box is a must... ive never seen my beardie in it once! actually the day before i got him i ran tests of my cage turned the lights on and moved the thermometer to diff places in the cage for a 24 hr period.. the area around the hide box is the coolest at about 88 during the day and about 78 at night... but he usually sleeps in the leaves directly under the ceraminc heater wich is about 90 degrees at night. usually during the day he climbs up to the basking spot which is about 105-108 during the day..and has been known to sleep there which is about 90-95 degrees at night... anyone else have a beardie that just loves the hot spots? also does anyone elses beardies actually use a hide box?

i have a little dark hiding cave and half a log that my beardie can hide in... but for the two nights i had him........

the first night he slept against the salad dish on the cool side and last night he was perched on top of the highest basking branch right under the night light and just slept there. he was still there this morning when i went to switch the day lights on. he's just so adorable

he never spent time in the log or cave, but he'd walk on top of them and hang out b4 he went 2 bask.

I would say it depends on the beardie. A couple of my beardies LOVE going under there half logs, caves, hiding spots. The rest just sit on top of them. The beardies that use them during the day will sleep there if thats where they are when the lights shut off. But I have never had a beardie go there at night to sleep.
