Otis update

Amos Nov 23, 2004 02:11 PM

Otis is definately hibernating. I have not seen him out for a week. I've peeked on him occassionaly just to see if he's still there and hasn't escaped. Question...will Otis come out to eat during hibernation? I don't know if I should continue to offer crickets or place out something that he "might" eat. Also if he continues to ignore food during this period... Will he waste away to vertually nothing. There matabolism has got to slow way down, right?? When can I expect to see my little Otis again??? I sure do miss him. It'll be a hoot if Otis turns out to be a girl. I'll have to rename if thats the case! LOL.

I'd leave some food for at least 3 to 4 weeks (changing it regularly to it doesnt go bad, depending on what you are offering). I'd also leave the basking and heat on. Its often that a tegu will come out to digest remaining food or perhaps to grab a bite.

He will not waste away when he hibernates, don't fear that.

Hope this info helps.
