I just noticed something which looked like it was a small tick or possible a scale on the back side of my ball's left eye. If it's a scale, I can remove it, but what if it's a tick? How should I go about removing it?

There is a product called provent-a-mite which is used in the case of mite and tick infestations. It is very safe, highly effective and easy to use. It will also cause the least amount of stress to the snake. You can find it at www.healthypets.com. I have used it before and love it! I hope this helps and Good luck!
provent-a-mite works awsome, but if your snake just has ticks, it sounds strange but pure olive oil works to kill the ticks as well. Olive oil kills mites too but isn't nearly as effective as proventamite. Pour the oil all over your snake and rub it where the ticks are. I have done this hundreds of times to newly imported ball pythons and the oil kills and makes the ticks 100 times easier to pull off. Just pulling the ticks off with nothing to lubricate it isn't a good idea because the head of the tick could get stuck in the snake. Just my 2 cents!!
