Who here does their own fecals for BD's?

funnyman527 Nov 23, 2004 05:51 PM

I was jsut wondering who here does their own fecals? I recently was givin full access to the types of microscopes vets use to do fecals, and was wondering if anyone has any tips for doing fecals "at home" (not really at my house, but u kno wut i mean).

And i expect several posts about how i should be taking my BD's to a liscensed vet, but there's nothing wrong with my BD's i'm just trying to learn how to do fecals.

Much thanks for all everyones help.

I do my own fecals but I am Microbiologist so it kind of comes with the territory. If you really want to do your own fecals it will take quite some time to develop a sense of what and where to look. There are alot of things like organic material that can be mistaken for worm eggs and coccidia oocyst. I would say if there is any doubt of what it is then it is not what you are looking for. Also remember that certain parasites are oppurtunistic and are not a problem unless there are an unusual amout in a 40X field. If you have some questions you can email me and I will take a shot at it....lol
