Pro Heat Radiant Panels questions

tim5580 Nov 23, 2004 06:46 PM

I was thinking of building a cage. I wanted to heat it for less money so I was looking at Radiant Heat Pro Panels.I was looking at their website, and it said they cost pennies a day to operate. Plus they are a reliable product from what I hear so that is a benefit too. And they replicate the warmth from above like the sun. So, heres my questions.
Are they cheaper to run than ceramic heat emitters?
It says "warmth from above", do I put it on the top of the cage and let it shoot down like the sun does or just put it in the bottom of the cage?
Are they OK to leave in the cage? says they can't catch on fire and stuff, and I think it would be more effective than under the bottom.
Laugh at the second question, but I couldn't figure a way to get heat from above w/o mounting it on the top.

I just ordered my first RHP from ProProducts yesterday.
You run them on a thermostat, so they turn on and off. Much like a CHE...watt for watt, the RHP warms the enclosure more per watt.
I was told, that as keepers switch over to RHPs. the temps in the room actually drop due to more heat remaining in the enclosure.
My advice, they was I had all my questions answered...
I made a phone call to Pro Products.
Any questions, they'd ( Bob ) would be more than happy to answer.
I had one just like yours...How do I get the electric bill down?

Just as Burmaboy said, Bob at Pro-Products will help answer every question you have. He will also ask you questions on things you didn't think of. I purchased and install a 15 X 24 RHP from Bob. I think it's a little to small for my 270 gallon size enclosure but he said if I had any problems, he would help me correct them.

Answers to your questions:

Are they cheaper to run than ceramic heat emitters? Don't know but it runs on less watts and heats allot better. Probably is cheaper.

It says "warmth from above", do I put it on the top of the cage and let it shoot down like the sun does or just put it in the bottom of the cage? Yes, mount from the top. It's very easy. I used 1x1 studs for a 1 inch spacer from the ceiling.

Are they OK to leave in the cage? says they can't catch on fire and stuff, and I think it would be more effective than under the bottom. Yes, leave in cage. The cord has a blank end on it so you can thread the cord through the cage without cutting a large hole. They give you a press on plug end that snaps secure. Very easy to install.
