Where is everyone??? Habi-Scape Cliffs vs outdoor Rocks question!

jack7777766 Jul 01, 2003 10:33 AM

I dont know if no one is looking at the forums or if nobody knew anything about my last message anyways.
I want to add some more stuff to my uros cage, and I saw those fake little blocks you can make clifs out of from habi-scape?? I think? I was wondering thought if I could use some flat rock from my backyard??? I will definitely be very carefull not to put them in a way they can fall and hurt the leo, just a few rock here and there. Is this OK?? And how do I clean them, hot water or clorox bleach???

Thanks
Jack

Rocks are fine from your backyard. They generally do not harbor many pathogens if well cleaned unlike wood. Just scrub them well with hot water and soap and if you are still concerned you can soak them in a dilute bleach solution for a couple hours.

I'm no mastermind at owning a Uro, but from the various pets i have owned never clean anything you put into a live animals tank/cage with a cleaning product such as bleach, soap, ammonia, etc. These chemicals leave byproducts and can be lethal.

Your best bet is to check out nursaries that sell plants and landscaping materials. They usually have slate in various sizes. I know i used clay pot coasters and a dremel (pardon spelling). My friend cut holes into the clay pot coaster using the dremel. Works great as a hide away and basking spot.

Hope this helps!!!

when i get pick out rocks from outside i do one of two things.. if they are small enough i boil them for about 5 to 10 mins..and if they are too large to do that i bake them at 450 for about 15 mins just to be safe...i also don't like to use chemicals because frankly i don't trust myself enough to get all the chemicals off.. i you do decide to use a chemical 1 part bleach and water is a good method....
