Leopard Gecko tail shaking, a sign I have a male?

duffman04 Nov 23, 2004 08:19 PM

I just purchased 2 baby leopard geckos, I put about 6 small crickets in as food along with some mealworms. When one of my Geckos aproached the cricket it batted its tail rapidly then charge and ate em! Now I have done some pre-reading before purchasing my new pets and read that tail waiving is an indication of a male...is this a clear sign that I have a male gecko or do both sexes bat their tails before attacking their live food??

both sexes as babies will wag(vibrate) their tails before striking prey. When of age males will vibrate their tail much the same way when around a female. i can hear their tails vibing against the plastic humid hides from the next room.

.....don't know about leos, but both my aft's (male & female) both do that when stalking their prey.

actually i know for a fact i have a female and she does tend to do that before she attacks. ive never read/heard that that was a gender specific trait. i could be wrong though. but anyway i know mine is a girl and she does it so who knows?
