A proud new owner....

I purchased my first ball for my son (and me too) about 1 month ago. Haven't taken a measurment yet, although I'm assuming 12-16 inches. It has been trying at times, but patience does persist. After trying 1 white, and two weeks later, 1 dark mouse both temporarily stunned went untouched. I found that my new addition to the family was happy enough with a pinky. After 4 weeks of concern, the meal was taken last Saturday night in darkness. I know this may be boring reading to the more experienced ball owners, but I think this forum will definitely come in handy in the future. I do have a broken clay pot, a bigger than average water bowl, a heat mat, a thermometer, cypress mulch, misting bottle, 2-3 small rocks, a piece of wood that he/she loves to lie/curl upon, heat lamp....and a 29 gallon tank. So my little guy/girl...still not sure which....should be okay for now. Any advice or tips would be appreciated.

It's sounds like you're well on your way to providing a good environment for your snake. I suggest getting a heat gun so that you can accurately measure temps and a hygrometer to measure humidity. The heat gun will allow you to measure temps in a specific place, like under the heat lamp or on top of the subtrate above the heat mat or anywhere else for that matter. The hygrometer is essential in making sure the overall humidity in the enclosure is in range. Check out ProExotics for the heat gun and Big Apple Herpetological for the hygrometer. Both are reputable companies to deal with. Happy herping.
