My pacman is not eating

damenta Nov 24, 2004 07:49 AM

Well i got my pacman a few days ago and he still pretty small. Ive had him now for 3 days and he hasnt eat. He may have eaten one cricket but it could of burrowed into the substrate of moss.

At the moment i am only feeding him crickets, wherei got him from they were feeding him goldfish because it is cheap i guess. Could my pacman not like crickets and be use to the fish? He is twice the size of a pinky, should i go and buy one of those and dangle it in front of him or should i try to switch to mealworms and fish?

The tempature in the tank is about 73F. I went and bought a gallon of purified water instead of using tap water cause maybe hes that picky.. if all else fails ill go ask a vet to see what i should do.

Tho thanks for any help you guys could give me.

thought i add a pic, first one is the 10 gal tank to show how moist it is in there (may be a bit much?) The second is from behind the glass looking at him. The last one on the bottom is a above shot of him, he has burrowed his backside down into the moss.

I wouldn't worry, mine didn't eat for a bit over a week, and I've heard of those that don't eat for two weeks.
Just leave the little guy a lone for 2-3 days, and then he'll maybe eat.
A tip: Try to get your frog to eat from tongs, that will decrease the risk of the frog swallowing the substrate which may cause an impaction.

Thanks, i read allot of guides but none ever mentioned that. I was worried he was gonna starv or something sense most guides say they eat 2-3 crickets a day of his size.

I wouldnt worry about him. Pacmans in general take a while to acclimate to their new surroundings before they will eat. I think my first took roughly two weeks and I was freaking out on this board too. I lucked out with my most recent ornate and he was eating the day after I got him in his new setup. just give it time. I noticed your tank looked pretty air tight with all that moisture in there. You might want to leave some type of opening in your tank though for fresh air to get in there, maybe pop out the perforation area where the aquarium heater goes. The high humidity and the heat can also combine to bad levels and harm your frog. hope this helps... Jon

Its not really that hot in the tank.. its about 60F outside of the tank and 74F inside so it causes a buildup on the sides.. There are some holes along the top lid tho on the back side above the pad to let air flow in and out. So its not as air tight as it looks
