Elevated Pheromone levels post shed ?

Rich_Crowley Nov 24, 2004 08:11 AM

Just some thoughts and observations I have made over the years that I was interested in sharing:

Some python pairs when introduced seem to react more intimately after either of the pair have recently shed. I tested this again this season by introducing two python breitensteini (Borneo short-tails) together. They did the usual rough housing, but no observable copulations. The male went through a shed cycle roughly two-three weeks later and after the completed shed, began copulation immediately. I noticed this with ball pythons and boa constrictors as well. It may seem obvious to some of us that have successfully bred before, but I thought to share this info for the newbies into the breeding game.

Please share your experiences for the rest of us to read. There is so much more than needs to be communicated. Happy Holidays.

Hey,
This pair of Borneo's was caught tonight, and only minutes ago, copulating while she is in shed. Patches of shed still adhering to her back, the male could not resist the throes of passion for this gal tonight. This is a perfect example of the pheromones at work and influencing his allure for a little "summ-summ" from this VPI beauty.
