Pink Snapper Info

MikeST Jul 01, 2003 11:27 AM

Just recieved my Leucistic Alligator snapper today in the mail.
This little guy is awesomw!!

Can anyone tell me more about these ?
I know they are a basically a genetic "defect" or recesive gene.
John Randleas said he's seen none of his wild-caught adults with this color.

Are they more fragile? I know that in some species, an albino type of coloring makes them vulnerable to predators, so it's sort of a form of natural selection where nature makes it harder for genetic abnormalities to survive.
I would appreciate anything any of you guys know about these.
I'll try to post a few pictures this week.
I'm pretty backward digitally.

I don't know Mike. Their legs and belly sort of looks like the big yellows that Richards has on his photo gallery. I notice that they have more white in their eyes also. I raise mine with a normal colored snapper and he doesn't seem more fragile in any way. It will be interesting to see the color when their shell starts hardening. Is yours a hatchling? Let us know if you find a pic of an older pink skin turtle. Steve

where did you find a leucistic alligator snapper for sale and how much did it cost ya? I've been looking for one of these for a while and only recently gave up and started working for a pinkskin

Hey guys, Thanks for the feedback. Always enjoy the information and the conversation.
I got what John Randleas is calling a leucistic alligator snapper. I 'm not really clear on the correct definition of that.
He's a hatchling from this past years batch. Shell maybe 1-1/2".
From the top he really doesn't look that much different from my other guys. He's got a little algae buildup so his shell is a little darker looking.
Underneath, he definately has the pink skin om all 4 feet and the neck.
John said it gets more pronounced as they get older and they get bolder line patterns on their head. Their eyes are also different.
I've seen a couple of the photos on the forum in the past few weeks; and mine is no-where near as bright pink as these guys. I hope as he grows he gets that way.I paid John $250 for him. DOn't know if thats high or not. I just got kinda carried away when John said he had only one left (LOL).
My wife will probobly kill me.

I think this is the place that sells the bright pinks that have been pictured on the board. www.turtlesellers.com

I also have a question about John Randleas. He is a different guy than John Richards (www.turtleman.com)in Missouri, correct? I am just confused since you called Randleas Turtleman in an earlier post. Thanks

You're totally right. My mistake.
John Richards is the guy.

I got that confused with Randleas turtle farm . I got some hatchlings from them about a year ago.

Man I hope I didn't mess up.
I just looked on turtlesellers.com.
They list their pink-skins as only $40.

I contacted them last week and they have none right now, but should have some in the fall.

Man I hope I didn't just way over-pay

Hi there,

The identical thing happend to my last year. John Richards told me that he had one left and it wouldn't stay around much longer if I did not purchase it. So I did. Then I found the same turtle for 40.00.

I decide to talk with him about the price difference because he seemed to be friendly before he had made the sale. When I called him, he denied that another leucistic turtle could sell for $40.00, and badmouthed all the other sellers who had them for 40.00 or less, saying that they were no good crooks, etc., etc.

He told me then to return the leucistic turtle back to him because he had customers in Japan who wanted to pay even more for it. He told me he had done a favor by selling it to me as opposed to Japan.

I sent the turtle with delivery confirmation, and he received it. John Richards would not answer my e-mails or any unblocked calls with my area code. And when he answered the blocked ones, it was one excuse after another, "My credit card machine is down call me next week and I'll credit you," "I will send you a refund check Monday for the turtle," etc., etc.

He never refunded me. (He had no problem with immediately charging my card for the sale, though!)He kept my turtle and stole my 250.00 plus shipping both ways. I filed a complaint about him and his response was that the turtle had arrived dead. He then told me that he doesn't care if I tell my friends to be leary of him and about the way he lied to and stole from his customer.

Please, take my advise, and be leary when dealing with money or turtles with John Richards. This is the first time I am publicly saying this, I don't want anyone else to be cheated this way!

Man , I appreciate your honesty in posting. Thats what these forums are for. For sharing all information good or bad. I have never had anything but good conversations with John , and his information always seems to be pretty accurate. This is the first hatchling I've ever gotten from him.

It seems healthy and everything, but like I said, turtlesellers.com said they'll have some in late fall for only $40.
I usually am pretty honest an also sometimes a little naive.
Hope I didn't get taken.

Anyone else?

Hey there. Well I got my four pink skinned ally's from P&J Turtle Farm. They only cost me $20 a piece. And they were deffinitely pink in coloration. They are doing good so far. I have had them since early this year. I was never able to get pics of them posted because the pics always never came out. So I had some one else post them for me. It was in the old forum. Maybe their still in the gallery. But I showed them with my other ally snappers. Any ways since then I noticed he upped the price on them. Just figured I would put my two cents in.

Unfortunately that is not what these forms are for. In most cases any posts which describe issue with sellers get deleted in short order. The ideal place to post this would be at the B O I

If there is a problem with a sale and a credit card has been used, contact your credit card company. They will refund you the purchase price. Most credit cards carry a purchase guarantee. If you are not happy and all attempts with the seller have failed, your credit card company will reinburse you the money. They then deduct the price back from the seller using a debit on their furture purchases.
