Question with regard to color changes over time .....

waswell Nov 24, 2004 11:34 AM

Does the common Columbian Boa Constrictor(BCI)get lighter or darker over time? I have seen VERY LIGHT adults and was wondering how to purchase babies who as adults will be light in color. Any suggestions or comments. Thanks !!!

Well i think it depends on the animal....not all will lighten up not all will get dark.....when i bought my bci she was actually a pretty dark grey color with a maroon colored tail as a neonate....now at 5' shes a creamy light orange color with a bright orange red tail....so i guess it just depends.....you could ask to see the parents of babies your lookin to purchase to see if their light in color....that might translate in to their offspring being light colored into adulthood though im no expert on that but makes sense to me....

Look for "pastels" with reduced black in the saddles and side medallions as babies if you want one with a higher chance of remaining light. Seeing the parents also helps.
