Doing a report on Exotic animals bans... need the usual weight for an 11 foot Burm...

LoneGreyWolf20 Nov 24, 2004 02:49 PM

As mentioned in my topic I am doing an essay for college on exotic animal bans (mainly on reptiles) and I need the usualy weight for an 11 foot Burm. I have kept Boas and never a Burm, so I am unsure of the usual weight for one that size. Basically I am writing my paper on the bans against these creatures because of misinformation, sensationalism by the media and fear caused by both. the reason why I need to know the weight is because my opening paragraph is on teh incident in PA with the 8 year old girl and her parent's 11 foot Burm. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated!

If you give me your name and email address I'll send you some basic stats on the growth history of my burm - which includes a record of his growth (length and weight) over the past four years.

- Mark

while I thank you much for your offer, I only need the average weight of an 11 foot Burm. The articles that I am using has some discrepencies and I am looking to use that to show misinformation.

Ok then - at about 11 feet my burm was 42lbs.

Yes between 40 and 50 pounds is a good healthy weight.

Do you feel that at 26 pounds that an 11 foot Burm would be malnourished?

corbin Nov 24, 2004 05:32 PM

Hell yeah it is malnourished, my 9 ft male is 26 lbs and I would consider him a little under weight, I want to get him up to 30.

I definitley disagree with using the term "malnourished". My burm is about 8.5ft and he is probably around 17lbs but only 1 yr old. He is quite the opposite of underfed or malnourished. He gets a colossal rat every week. He is getting his first baby rabbit tomorrow. I was actually concerned I was OVERfeeding him. In the wild they eat much less than what we feed them in captivity. But I also think when determining what weight is average for a specific length, age factors in.

I also think a 26 pounder would be underweight. My burm was 8'3" at 17 pounds when I got him and he even looked skinny. He was only eating rats at the time. Now he's 9', 35.2 pounds and looks really good. His tail has a nice taper, you can see the muscle definition and his skin is not stretched over his carcass. As mentioned in another response, I think between 40 and 50 is ideal for an 11 footer.

i've got a female burm about 12..she weighs just under 70....

corbin Nov 25, 2004 03:05 PM

Jason, I think that is a good weight, and thank you captain, I am sick of people thinking that a captive burm should be the weight of a wild burm. Wild burms are skinny because there isnt enough food to keep their weight up. Let me throw your lard a** out into the forest with nothing to kill prey but your bare hands you would be skinny too.

I was bored and measured my 9' snake last night. Turns out he's now 10 and a half feet but still 35 pounds. His size, taper, muscle tone etc. still look really good. Hope this helps.
