little bit of shed on toes

harlanm Nov 24, 2004 07:08 PM

my male gargoyle has a little bit of shed on a few of his toes. it isnt on the whole toe, just on his nail. its a little ball on there.
i know it can be bad if left alone , i am going to spray them a little more, the humidity never drops below the 50s in there, ill raise it some.

just wanted to make sure that i caught this in time and i have read in a few places to never pull skin off shedding herps.

should i just make it moister in there or try to remove the skin ( its on like 3 toenails) will it come off on its own?

my female has no problems with this

thanks

Usually when my cresteds have shedding on their toe-nails (not toes) I wet a q-tip with water and just gently wipe them. This usually takes care of it.

Since we are on the subject, I wanted to ask.

Is it good or bad to help thier shedding process by pulling off the skin?

I'm just curious since it was brought up that it was bad.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!!

. . . if they look like they are having a "bad shed" - that's exactly what's happening. I help them.

It's better than trying to deal with it, when it gets even more stuck and problematic.

When I see one in trouble, I will put them in a humidity box (a deli with heavily moistened paper towel) for 15 minutes or so - then grab it firmly (like a lioness with a cub!!) - and get the shed off.
