corn snake vs. milk snake

seductivereptile Nov 24, 2004 09:43 PM

I was wondering what are the differences between a corn snake and a milk snake. I mean temperment, size, etc. I have a corn already and love the looks of the milk.
Thanks for your help!

I've never owned a pure corn so i can't give u a comparison, but i can give you my take on milks. milks are very secretive animals and as hatchling they don't enjoying being handled. they do slowly break out of their "antisocial" behavior. they don't really bite as much as other snakes I've owned, most of my milks take frozen/thawed prey without a problem but are a bit "mouse shy" when it comes to live mice. their are a few savages, like my Hondurans that take live without a problem. far as care of a milks it is pretty basic they don't need much basic food water warmth (when needed) and a hide and your snake should be "happy"

cool photo! i have both corns, 2 of those, and a tangerine honduran milk. i can tell you my corns are more mellow when it comes to handling then my milk. they come out much more often then my milk and tolerate handling better. but my milk has gotten better with handling then when i got him a year ago. and is coming out more, but it has taken over year.

both eat well on mice. my corns are on adult mice and my milk, even though i think he could eat a small adult mouse he will still only take fuzzies. 2-3 at a time.

their care is basically the same. i have UTH's on both with lights on my corns, but no light on my milk. he don't need one and i've read that since they are so secretive, mine hides 24/7, they don't need a light.

i like both but probably the corns better. i debated on finding my milk another home because he hides 24/7 but decided not to. that's just the way he is so why hold that against him. he is so pretty too!

Well, I can't tell you which I like better, since I never had a corn but I do like milks for their appearance but I love kings for the simple fact that the calm down quickly and handle easier as hatchlings. My milks enjoy smaller prey as well, but they do take bigger meals at times. I got some nelson's milks that are a bit more social than my Hondurans. my Hondurans come out at night to drink water and I have to take them out to actually feed them. They don't really come out when they are hungry. So may be you can get a nelsoni or a sinaloan milk, they are pretty nice snakes. or just get a kingsnake.

i always take my honduran milk out to eat also. my corns will eat if i set a f/t mouse in their tanks an come out from hiding to eat. i haven't tried that with my milk since he hides 24/7 and i don't want to waist the food. i always handle him for a few minutes then set him in another container with his food. he eats that way. i'm waiting till he gets bigger to try and feed him in his cage. my corns are good with not eating my hand vs. food when i reach in for cleaning.

Hey man you should get a Brooksi or Brooksi morph, you will be please with these snakes they may start out aggressive but they calm down quickly, they have the best appetites and they grow at an amazing rate. adults can easily hit 6'
