New tortoise set up

beckys Nov 24, 2004 11:21 PM

I was wondering if anyone has used galvanized watering troughs for tortoises. The size I am looking at is 2 ft wide, 6 ft long and 1 foot high. I am planning on putting 2 , 4 or 5 inch cherryhead redfoot torts. in it, Does this sound sufficient?
I have several lists of what I will need, but was hoping to get some tips from experienced tort caregivers. What would you put in a new set-up. I am lucky in that I can order from a pet distributer directly, so if you could have the ultimate set up- what would be in it?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes I have all my turtles in galvanized troughs indors. My two sulcatta winter in a 8ft x 3ft x 2 foot one. There about ten pounds and three pounds respectively. The set up is pretty simple bark and lighting but I want to spice it up. I also have another trough the same size that I keep my female spotted turtles in. I have two other smaller troughs for my male spotted and my juvies

Can't say much about 'watering troughs'.. never used them.. I'd go with a plastic kid's wading pool.. if you have the room.. a 60" pool gives you twice the space.. a lot easier to move if ever need to.. and has to cost a lot less.

Anyway for all kinds of 'care' ideas.. try link.. below pic.

Love those redfoot torts.. (wash your face)

...here's an addendium to my previous post:
_if it's still in the basement, make sure they don't get drown in it should a leak occurs...
_try to figure how to insulate them to keep up the humidity if you are keeping Redfoots.
_possible rust overtime from those poopoo and peepee...
