Danny,
Hello my name is Abby and unlike everyone on this forum I do not own a Crocodilian and I would have no idea on how to take care of one or anything like that. I was reading this forum for the first time and saw that your mom Jenny made a post and then found your original post asking about getting a caiman and if it was a good idea. Well since I know nothing about them I can say honestly that my opinion has nothing to do with the species but with the long term relationship between you and the animal. I remember when I was in 8th grade I wanted everything you could possibly think of and the majority of this my other was okay with {had to have legs} the one thing she made me do was research on how long the animals life expectancy was and what they ate along with how to house them. Well after doing everything I was told to do I figured out that there is no way that I could afford majority of the animals I wanted and also with how long they live I would have to take them to college with me {I am a sophomore studying forensic science}. I don’t know about you but dorms usually say no pets, apartments don’t usually take animals and if they do $$ big security deposit$$. Not only that many states are starting to say NO to exotic animals and what would happen if in 5 yrs when you are ready to go to college you get accepted your senior year and everything is great and then you find out that the caiman can’t come because it’s illegal to own wouldn’t that just suck.. You would have to decide do you go to that school, break the law, or leave your friend behind?? I am now 21 years old and I will finally be getting my snake that I have wanted {ball python} next year I need to save up for the cage and at least the first 6 months of food and also money for the snake. I hope that you are able to take something from this and that it won’t offend anyone. I understand 100% what you are going through and it is great to have a passion but make sure you learn all you can and also be able to take care of it for it’s entire life it’s not like a kitten you can’t post a sign saying “FREE CAIMAN needs good home” majority of common people wouldn’t jump at that ad. Just a little something to think about.

Sincerely,
Abby

Hello to the posters on this forum. My name is Zach i am 15 and currently living in california but soon in new mexico.I have always wanted a caimen do to liveng in calif you need a perment. But in new mexico you dont i was thinking about buying one But i have decided not to do to housing, feeding etc.Danny I had the same problem as you last year i wanted a pair of reticulated pythons not very smart considering they can get well ove 15 feet.If i were to buy one in a year they could be a dnager to me.my little brothers etc.i would not have a terraruim large enoughth, big enough food etc.so i will wait a couple years inorder to get one of these(so i stick to my carpet pytons) or a caimen for that matter.just check out your locole herp community get some info.I know I will be.I am also into venomouse which is also takes a extreme amount of responsibilty to keep.so good luck and learn about the animals you love
