Brumation question

dragonbirds Nov 25, 2004 02:05 AM

How long do most people brumate their dragons for? and what do you do physically to them to brumate? I have shut down his heat and his light cycle is shorter. Is there anything els I should be doing? This is the first time in 3 years he has shown signs of wanting to brumate. Do they have to if they are not going to be bred?

Thanks,
Shannon

You don't have to brumate your dragons but sometimes they do it anyway. They can brumate as long as 4 months. Pretty much shorten daylight to 10 hours, night 14 hours and cool temperatures. After a couple months, you can slowly start to increase daylight and the temp to bring them out.

If there is any noticeable weight loss in your dragon then it isn't the onset of brumation but illness. Dragons shouldn't lose much weight during brumation, maybe 10-20 g per month.
