Owners of adult burms - please comment:

Antegy Nov 25, 2004 11:07 AM

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if my burm has a smallish sized head compared to his overall size. By checking the photo below my burm's body is about 35.8 x's the length of his head - that is, he is almost 11ft long, but his head is only about 3-1/2 inches.

Compared to normal phase burms, does it seem that he has an abnormally small head? And if so, is this something that labyrinth burms are prone to?

This is from back in September:

Thanks for any input on this,
- Mark

Looks perfectly fine and healthy to me, my adult males head seems a little bigger but I believe thats because he is also thinner and older than your male. When I have my two males together the size of my 6 yr olds head dwarfs my yealrings head.

I am no exspert but I just am curious if you have had your snakes sexed. As a owner of a female Burmese python I know this because I had her sexed. I also know that the easy way to tell is in the lenth of thier tails from flap to tip of tail. If the tail is short then most likely its a male.Females have a longer tail. The Both females and males have spurs. This is not a good way to sex them.My Houdini is 20ft 300#s and this is no exageration.I ahve video for anyone who wants to take the time to down load it.Email me at samhainmagic@aol.com

I wanted to add that if you over feed them when they are young thier body will grow faster then their head. It is common in power feeding. This is not recomended. Power feeding a Burmese python is dangerous. Not only do they grow at a very fast rate this will shorten its life exspectance and evev kill the now in the wild considered an endagered species. So if you do own one be sure you know what you are in for.
