Hello,
I am new to this forum. I am a Canadian with a new uro maliensis. I think she is a female (not entirely sure) but she is very cute! Her name is Milotis.
I have been reading many different care sheets on the internet, many of them conflicting and some of them not giving me information which might be obvious, but which I am not aware of (not being very familiar with lizards in general). However, I have learnt a lot in the past week by reading and observing my pet.
A couple of her behaviours I find strange and would like to see if someone with experience can tell me about. I have heard that they excrete salt from their noses, which she does, but she also seems to excrete something from her eyes. To do this she pushes it out with a unique muscle structure that kind of looks like she is using her tongue from inside. They look like salt blocks, small and white, which she rubs off.
She has slept with her head under the sand all night and this mourning I noticed that her skin is peeling around the bottom of one nostril and above the lip. It looks a little like a hollow indentation. I don't know what to expect from shedding, only that I've read that it usually commences with the skin on the body?
She seems happy: sleeps under cover at night, eats consistently, poops consistently and enjoys her digging!
Hopefully this is normal. I would just like to be sure.
Andrew

if only it was so easy to apply the same set of variables for every uro.
