Whether or not monitors are social in nature shouldn't be as much a concern to hobbyists as the idea that they appear to be social in captivity.

If they are indeed social and actually do form pair bonds in captivity, it would appear important to figure out how to apply this concept to captive breeding projects.

I am assuming that in order to properly form a pair bond in captivity it would be important to keep young males and females together to allow them to get to know each other.

I have never bred monitors and am intersted in trying it and would like to do it right the first time if possible.

How many young monitors should you raise in the same enclosure to establish pairs and what do you do when you see a pair forming? Should you only keep a pair together? or can you keep larger groups than just a pair together?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
