HELP! strange behavior today, what could it be?

figuerres Jul 01, 2003 01:19 PM

Hi I have a 3 1/2 to 4 month old dragon who has been fine till
this am.

he took a poop and then a couple of minutes later he was opening his mouth and making a sound like he was "Burping" he shook his head like perhaps he had something in his throat or mouth that was bothering him.

the burping has repeated some more and he does not seem to want to eat today.

I am getting a vet to see him, I was going to find one and get him a first checkup soon but now I'm in "panic mode"

so far the only other thing I have seen is a bit of a "slow down"
in his activity level. but it seemed to just be him grwoing up.

he was eating yesterday.
I've never seen any other problem so far.

any one have any ideas on what to look for etc...???

also one person I called at the place where I got him said he might be starting to show some "Teenage" behaviors
but this was not spreading his beard and bobing his head I've seen that before.

do they ever make any sounds normaly?
(other than a hiss)

as far as I know he has not eaten any bad things ...
just normal veg. crickets and some super worms

could this be a problem digesting a super worm?

never had this before but??

Thanks

With the sounds your hearing, is it like a popping sound? Beardies can get upper respitory infections (chest colds) to us. I think the vet is a good idea. Has he been flaring his beard more then usual like trying to get something out of his throat? If so this is a sign of swollen glands. Glands swell usually because of a bacteria infection. I'm nowhere near an expert but these are some signs to look for and be conserned about. If it continues a vet should see him. Hold the dragon to your ear and listen for a popping sound or a gurgling sound, Sure signs of a respitory problem. Ussualy to clear it a vet will use some baytril or another bacteria affecting drug. Just my thoughts on this. Good Luck and maybee someone here can give you a second opinion.

do you think your BD could have eaten something too large for it? or perhaps swallowed something large...it could be trying to regurgitate that bit of food up.

i read your post again and i think this could be the case, since your BD is still quite young. (they don't start showing juvenile behaviors until they're quite a few months older...).

you'll have to be vigilant and watch out for impaction, if your beardie has indeed been eating too large prey items (even if he does succeeds in regurgitating his/her food.).

Thansk for the replys....

found a vet I can get to tomorow and see what they say...

I'll post any info back here after that....

thanks and if anyone else has any ideas please keep adding...

I don't *THINK* it's a cold but who knows ??
the vet I hope

from the sound I am thinking gut problem

I wish I had "X-Ray" eyes to see whats inside him

so far he's not very happy today... called home and no eating that they can see all day

and he normaly will put away 20 crickets a day when he's happy and healthy.
