Scarlet Kings?

gentlemantw0 Nov 25, 2004 08:27 PM

I was wondering if anyone knew of good localities to find the white banded kings in fla/ga. I used to find the whites but those days are long gone. Also, I generally hunt them in the long leaf pine areas but has anyone else noticed any other good habitats? Thanks in advance-Cole

South East Georgia has some nice B & W's. I found quite a few in Glynn, and Camden county (this is where I used to live in the eighties). Now you can still find them there, you just can't take em' home anymore!!! But you can take home all the eastern diamondbacks you want!!!

Are they protected in Ga? The way you make it sound, those counties have an abundance of edb. If that's the case I'm goin now, lol.

YES they are (protected)! Don't get caught with ANY non venomous snakes in your possesion, (not even a dead racer,) unless you can prove that you purchased them out of state with receipts & phone numbers and you are not a GA. resident and only passing through! Trust me I know! Just curious where do you live?
I currently DO have an orange phase female I caught in Tallahassee city limits last year. She's about 20" long.

I live in Kissimmee, about 15 minutes from Orlando. It's hard to belive they are protected there when, supposedly, they are one of the most common(in numbers) snakes here. Tell me more of Ga, if you don't mind. You can't have any non-venomous snakes in your possesion without proof of sale? This applies to all snakes? In Fl you can collect close to everything without any permits. I planned on going to the panhandle/Ga this spring and was hoping to find a pair of canebrakes. Are you required to have a Ga venonous permit to collect there? Thanks for all the help.-Cole

Oh and by the way, can you post pics of your scarlet? What is she feeding on? Ok, one last question. Do you see edb's in your area often? They are one of the few snake(from what I've been told) that can be found during the winter. I was thinking to possibly make a trip up that way over the holidays if someone could tell me it would be worth my time. Thanks again.-Cole

Yes, you CAN collect ANY venemous snake in GA. without a permit. I will post a pic of the scarlet later today (I'm a little busy right now). I can tell you a few areas where you may find some EDBs in North Florida and one area where they live litterally by the thousands (but you'll need a boat to get to it) Contact me directly and leave me your current e-mail address and I'll give you more details. . .

Thanks,

Zee
