Unfortunately, if you haven't found an escapee poison frog in a couple of days, you might as well call off the search party. These guys just can't hack it in the dry air of your home. I've heard of some frogs drying out in a matter of 30 minutes after escaping from their enclosure.

Unfortunately, they don't last long outside of the terrarium. Look in corners, under the furniture, rugs and in house plants. In our climate (SE Idaho) I've lost a couple of thumbnails that have dehydrated within 15 minutes. It will depend upon the relative humidity in your area. Even the larger frogs can escape through incredibly small openings. I've had D. leucomelas lift the back plastic flap on the hinged glass tops and squeeze through, so I now tape these down.

In my experience, new frogs are always better started out in a small tank where you can surround them with food and watch them for a few weeks, whether you call this a quarantine period or a nursery tank.

Good luck--I hope you have found it by now.

I'm sorry to hear about your frog. Mine did the same thing (sitting at the top of the tank) and I found that he escaped through a small opening made for an air tube. The top of my enclosure was designed for a fish tank and I thought the hole was too small for the frog.

I found mine on the carpet covered in fuzz and thankfully he survived. I honstly think if he was out for much longer he would have died.

Good luck!

well i have yet to find the lil guy, so i'm expecting the worse if and when i do find it. hopefully it will show up six months later very healthy like my leopard gecko that escaped last year. thanks for the replies and concern.

p.s. my other 2 auratus that i picked up at the show are doin really good.
