I've read a few things about sexing, and as far as i can tell there is the method of inserting a metal rod up his vent, with the risk of damaging him, and theres feeling upwards from the tip of the tail to the vent, which ive read either you can feel the hemipenis or it will pop out...

My snake is about 5 feet, give or take a foot, ive never formerly measured him. I dont know his age, i got him at a petstore several months ago from some iguana/chameleon cage, they were just trying to ditch him fast b/c of some well healed injuries, so well i cant even tell if it was a cut type injury or a burn type injury. infact, the scars are almost gone, for like four months he shed every 2-4 weeks, part of healing im guessing. but back on topic...

i felt up his tail, and felt nothing. but i have no idea how much pressure i should put on, what sort of feeling i'm looking for, etc. the only thing i have to go off of is how i sex ferrets, running my finger down their belly, and the males have an easy to feel (is it called a hemipenis in them too? i have no idea, it just feels like a small carpet needle) So, since i felt nothing, does that mean i have a female, does it mean i might not have been feeling hard enough, or will i just never be sure?

I've also read they can be visually sexed by the claws, and the width/length of the tails. I've never had another boa, so the visual on the tail does me no good, but his claws seem above average, maybe slightly bigger, than other snakes for size of calws ot size of snake.

I'd bring him to someone to sex him, but the one reptile shop we had moved about 3 hours away, i doubt the local petstores know what they are talking about, except one lady at petsmart who really knows snakes, but she really manhandled my ball when i brought him in, so, meh... And i'm not paying a 35 dollar visit fee to have him sexed at the vet, plus she will probably use the instrument to sex him, and ive read bad things about that in a few places.

Any input?
