Hes finally eating.

damenta Nov 26, 2004 07:53 AM

Well my pacman is finally eating now and its confirmed. i found 2 dead crickets in his case with one live one and the fourth missing and i thought this was weird.. he had also hoped around the cage allot while i was gone and swamp in his little pond. the cricket that was still alive was in a place he couldnt reach so i knocked him down and went to go get some water to change his bowls.. came back and it was gone i was liek huh... so i droped a worm in there walked off and the worm was gone tho it could have went in the substrate... but he hadnt moved so i was like wtf... well i droped 2 crickets in and one walked right infront of his face and he just snaged it with light speed and i was like WOOOOT hes eating..

Well tho that was long thanks to the people who helped me out with him..

And thanks hobosam, and i saw that same little gargoyle thing you got in your tank today and almost bought it hehe

Congratz I do reccomend that you try feeding the frog with tongs. It may not work the first time, but he will most likley learn. That will eleminate the risk of crickets not being eaten and biting the frog, and you can keep track on how much he is eating.

he dosent care when my hands are in the tank or when the tongs are in or even if i move anything or get my finger less then an inch close to him.. BUT hes dose mind one thing.. when i hold food with the tongs.. but the instant i drop the food he grubs it.. Hes also a waiter, he dosent goto the food he waits for it to talk by then with amazing speed snags them and munches down.. I have no worries of a cricket biting him cause one cant even get close to him and if he stops taking them i remove them from the cage now.. currently i got him eating 2 crickets and 2 earth worms a day sprinkled with some calcium supplement i got from the pet store. hes fatten up sense i got him and is looking happier. I did how ever see him bite some of the substrate when eating a worm but he pulled it out of his mouth with his hand.

Would natural moss really block him up on the inside?

And lass but not least i was talking with a herper who works at the zoo and he said "the meal worm eating a pacman from the inside if it swallowed the meal worm hole" and it is just a myth and it was recently dispeled in some reptile magazine i forget its name.

Last but not least hes looking a bit bigger not just fatter. About how fast do they grow they never really say that in care sheets only there max size, I may be jumping to conclusions but by the way hes bulking so quick, he may be a she.. heheh

Well, I guess moss can block cause a blockage. Though, any substrate that I know of can, except for water.

Pacs grow pretty rapidly but it depends on diet and their environment. Fed right and kept in the proper conditions, they grow amazingly fast. Ive had my new pac for about two weeks and I would say he has doubled in size. Females get much larger and some say grow quicker. If your frog grows rapidly and all of a sudden stops at about 2-3 inches, you prob got a male. If it keeps going, you more than likely got a female. You can also try the mist test once they acheive that 2-3 inches. If you mist them, some times the males will tend to start croaking, my late pacman would start croaking within a few minutes of being misted. hope this helps, any more q's or concerns feel free to ask... Jon
