Feeding trick **PICS**

Marcel Poots Nov 26, 2004 09:40 AM

My Antaresia will only eat chicken legs. That is very strange since he will even refuse chick wings.

Today when I was feeding him I pushed a pinky head in his mouth which resulted in harder constricting. His true feeding nature take over. LOL, he did not want to give the mouse back

And this big is that monster..

It's amazing how hard and how long they constrict their food items! My adult maculosa coiled the feeding tongs as well as her rat the other day, and it was 30 minutes before she decided to give them back and eat her meal. My childreni, although smaller, are much the same way in their feeding responses.

Was this baby a stubborn feeder? I guess I'm wondering how it got hooked on chick legs? I don't imagine that there is much nutrition in the legs, so hopefully this little snake will continue to eat pink mice. It is a very pretty spotted.

The pics are wonderful--thank you for sharing.

regards,
althea

Well, after hatching it refused everything the first 13 weeks. Then it took one chickleg. Now it has fed on the legs a few weeks but still refused everything else. Even chick wings. So I am very thrilled it ate a mouse. I am very confident I will get a mouse in him the next time on the same way. Hopefully he will eat pinks without pulling tricks soon.

one of my professors, Michael Grace, has written several articles for Reptiles and Vivarium Magazines, and he has had much success feeding picky eaters thawed mice dipped in chicken broth. he and i were discussing this the other day, and i thought it interesting when i saw your pictures of the chicken legs.

Congratulations Marcel. That is a fine looking little snake and I'm sure with your patience you'll get him switched over sooner or later.

Hi Lance,

I am pretty sure one of the next few feedings it will eat a pinky without a chick being present. How have you been. Did the hurricanes pass your house?

Marcel

We really only got hit by two of the hurricanes. It wasn't too bad, but we did lose power for a few days both times. Keep us posted on your little chicken leg eater
