Sick Veiled Chameleon PLEASE HELP ME!!

Lynnabugg Nov 26, 2004 05:34 PM

My beiled is very sick he was given to me about 2 months ago. I recently noticed his eyes sinking in and increased the humidity by spraying the sides. He has acess to a dripper and has been eating crickets. today he tooka turn for the worse. Earlier he seemed to be having heart attacks or seizures or something. He is very weak and can't hold himself up very well. He fell over a few minits ago and a little bllod came out of his mouth. I realized that it was coming from his toungue which looks very swollen and red. Now his tounge is sticking out and it looks like he is biting down on it. Has anyone seen this and is there anyway to help him??

he died...

Lyn,
I am very sorry to hear your cham died. The fact that he was shaking makes me think he may have had Metabolic Bone Disease. Did you dust the crickets with vitamins? If you think you may get another cham someday, post your setup and care here and we can try to figure out what was wrong.
Best wishes.

Also, if he was wild caught he may have had severe intestinal parasites. If you get another, buy a captive bred/born from a reputable breeder and then get a fecal sample to your vet right away.

I am very sorry this happened to you. In the future, acting on early symptoms can be life saving - I think some signs were there. I don't mean for this to sound harsh or judgemental in the midst of your loss, just trying to get you thinking if you get another. I truly do sympathize
