Dumerils Boa Question... Please Help....

biscuit71 Nov 26, 2004 06:20 PM

I recieved a Dumerils Boa Female... About 1 year old, and she is quite dehydrated, and she doesnt seem to want to eat. She just finished a shed, and alot of it is still stuck to her. I put her into a Tupperware with papertowels, and water to try to get some of the stuck shed off of her... is there anyhting I can do to rehydrate her or is that something that will take care of itself? The temp in her cage is 75-80 ambiant with a warm end of 90. The humidity in the cage is 70. My other Dumeril is in the same exact set-up and temps and I have never had a problem with him... Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated.

Sean,

It seems like your temps are right and you humidity is fine. In fact I usually only keep my humidity at 60% then mist a little when they are in shed. I had a young male that didn't shed that great when young and sometimes still has trouble today (at age five). But, a little soaking always seems to remove any of the skin that does not shed. I would just monitor your dumeril and see how it goes. It should be able to rehydrate itself without trouble. Give it access to fresh water, secure hides on both end of the heat gradients, and plenty of privacy. It will probably begin feeding after a short time. Leave it alone for about two weeks, exept to make sure its condition isn't declining, then try to feed again. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

thanks,
Erin
