What are all of the different bulbs I need for a beardie?

duckofdomination Nov 26, 2004 07:00 PM

I am planning on getting a beardie in april '05 and I like to plan ahead. I would probably be building my tank, Or getting a 50 gallon. What are all of the different types of bulbs I would need for a beardie? Including heat sources and all of the other ones?

On a different note, Do beardies need to have there nails clipped? and also where is a good website that list's all or many of the different greens or salad stuff that you can feed?

Thanks for all of your help!

Bulbs:
Heat lamp that gets basking area 100-115F (50watt at about 1')
UVB/UVA flourescent
OR what I prefer mercury vapor(even though I haven't tried one yet) both heat and UVB/UVA
Beautifuldragons.com has nutrition information and caresheets even a store and links to stores and breeders
Beardies don't need their nails clipped but you can just don't clip to far, others can give more information on that.

If I only have one bulb (mercury vapor) then how do I make the other side of the tank warm? Do I need a ceramic bulb or anything like that? Thanks for the info!

As long as the other side of the tank is mid-80's, then I'd say you're okay. The heat from the other side is moving to that end. But, if the temp falls below 80F during the day, then you'll need to get a bulb that'll bring it up to the mid-80s and no higher.

At night, it'll be alright if the temps drop a little to the mid-70s, but keep it there and not lower Good luck!

I have a strip light across the top with a UV bulb and a basking bulb on during the day.

When I set up my tank, I decided to use a ceramic heat emitter for the night. I invested in an automatic thermostate with a heat probe attached. Never regretted it.
