Anyone keep sandfish?

Lia Nov 26, 2004 07:31 PM

Anyone keep sandfish, Wanted to know do you see them much or not at all?
I know ofcourse the skinks that love to bury arent known for being display lizards but I imagine these skinks you never see at all. Interested in them thats why asking.

I don't keep any but I've seen imports in crappy little pet shops. I'm pretty sure they're rarely seen due to their habits (hence the name) and their skittinsh nature.

I imagine your right due to their nature. I have never seen any for sale in pet stores only in mail order places.
I keep Ocellated skinks which hide lots but do bask here and there wanted to know if the sandfish were the same which wouldnt be bad or bigger hiders.
Thanks.

A friend of mine has one and we did some research on them. No, you don't see them much, maybe a couple times a week, but they are fascinating little creatures. They need a deep sand substrate, at least 6 inches, and they prefer natural playsand, not the colored stuff. And they like it hot! She also gives him a moist corner where the water bowl is. Given this set-up he has been a happy camper for over a year now.
If I had the space I'd get me a couple as well.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info thats what I wanted to know if you see them much or not much at all. I like the way they look but didnt want to mostly look at a sand tank with the skinks rarely being seen.
I have ocellated skinks you see them here and there just didnt want another tank set up with a lizard that mostly hides. To bad tho because they are neat.
Thanks.
