reflex21089 Nov 26, 2004 08:10 PM

Heres some pics of my first pair of darts....i recieved them from Patrick at Saurian.net and im very glad i chose him as my first person to buy from, he has great service and great frogs! One of the frogs tends to be pretty shy while the other (the one in the second pic0 seems to be much more bold, hes always out and about. please excuse the blurryness i didnt want to bother them with the camera to much...

this one the color was a little washed out from the flash...

Individual boldness does vary a lot among the blue auratus. Patrick has nice healthy frogs and ships them perfectly in my experience. So you will enjoy these guys, I'm sure. I've found that the more immediate cover you have for them, the bolder they become over time.

First of all, you picked a great breeder to get your first darts from. Secondly, although many blue auratus can tend to be shy at times, there are a couple of things you can do to keep them from living exclusively in the back portions of your vivarium. You can (as was mentioned before) keep the terrarium well-planted as this will give your darts some feelings of security. Another technique that I've tried and has worked in the past (with a different species of dart frog) is keep the front portion of the tank seeded with plenty of springtails. This will entice your frogs to prowl the open areas of their tank in plain view. Hope this helps!

Thanks a lot for the help! Now that ive had them a few days ive kinda gottena feel for each ones personality...One of them like to be out fornt in the terrarium and doesnt feel threatened by me being there. the other one likes to hang out in the back and hid/climb in the pothos. The bolder of the two hasnt started climbing much but im glad that at least one hangs out in the open. What i have done is i have an oak leaf in t he fornt and this is where i dump the ff so it helps to lure them to the front.
