First, this is not about opposing sides, but opposing sides do allow for good reasons to express information.
I am often accused of "methods" by some, you know, FR's way, of this or that or anything. More on this later.
Also, some here have set out to expose my ignorance. Again this is great and not a problem. In fact, some have said, they will ruin me or my reputation, again I do not mind this at all. Heres why,
My methods are based on me "not" knowing anything, so if I don't know anything, thats a headstart.
My mission was to set up cages, set them up in many different ways. Then support the cages and see what happens. To a point, I do not care what species were in them. Odd, but what do I know, hahahahahahahaha.
If I actually thought I knew something, I would most likely have interfered and guided them. But thats not what I wanted to do.
You see, when I started, others had a very set protocol, with very set narrow results. I did not predict or imagine what would turn out from these tests. It merely happened.
Once it happened, we had to define what caused it, and repeat those conditions. We did that, and produced many generations of monitors, based on results of early tests.
We do, occasion backtrack and try older methods and see what happens. Whats funny is, I talk to people like Goon and others, and ask, how come some peoples female monitors do not lay eggs. You see the problem is, I do not understand how that happens. Neither does Goon.
I think that those that attack me think knowledge has something to do with it, in some way it may. In my case, its not knowledge about monitors thats important. Its my knowledge of cage building and temperature control thats important. As well as a general knowledge of breeding reptiles.
The product of some of these conditions, allowed monitors of many species to multiclutch. At first, I was afraid that the females would be harmed. But then I learned if I support them(mindlessly) they would be fine.
What I do not do is, I do not judge whether its right or wrong or if wild monitors or even Joes monitors down the street, do the same. I mindlessly allow them to do what they do. I do not understand why I animals must be like others peoples animals. As long as they are healthy and progress, thats all that matters.
My best ability is to focus on my task and not be bothered by others opinion. Or other false input, Yes I am good at this, ask my wife.
So indeed, my method is to be dumb and allow the monitors to do what they do. It seems some people think that is wrong, or I am wrong or the monitors are wrong. Well, thats not my concern. My concern was to see what potential they have.
Not to see how narrow I can make them.
Tomorrow I will try to explain some of the needs of monitors. This will show why many studys are, sorta worthless. or at least misguided. Please understand, this is not against or meant to offend anyone. I said this before the recent set of Mad people were even here.
I feel some like Mark, think keeping montiors is a clan system, and we all should do it the same and recieve the same results, I really do not see any benefit in this, and in Marks case, I do not want his results. I cannot afford to have two or so clutches in 23 years. I would get bored to tears. I say this because, I think most of use like to see progress, whether its for fun or money. We would simply get bored to tears. Is that wrong?
I am charging the cameras batteries now, maybe I will get time to photograph babies from four clutches of gilleni, from the same female, all about two or three weeks apart. One hatched on turkey day, its interesting to see how fast they grow. Thanks FR
