Burm curls up in a ball? Hibernation? Need help.....

bloodboy128 Nov 27, 2004 12:56 AM

Ok well the winter has come...My burms cage has been from 79-81 to 76. his basking spot is still the same because of the heat pad at low 90's.. but lately he has been curling up and putting his head into his coils? Does this mean hibernation...He is close to 3 foot and is eating reguraly once a week on small rats...He is also in shed right now??? Any ideas?

My burm did the same thing when the cold weather hit and now won't eat. He'll sniff and explore a live rat, but won't eat. I boosted my temps as soon as I realized it. Also, if your temps aren't above 81, you need to raise them. In nature the heat comes from above and this is how they bask. Sounds like your only providing a small spot your snake can keep warm.
