How old do they have to be to Breed?

geckoguy06 Jul 01, 2003 02:37 PM

Hi, I have two Giant Day Geckos about 7 months old. One is a Female and the other is Male. When is the age where they will start breeding. And do you have to set a different type of tank during breeding season or change anything?

Thanks.

Oh and I am looking for another young female Giant Day Gecko...If you have a place where I can find one please tell!!!

Hi,
12 months should be good for them. Make sure they have good body weight and the female(s) have nice calcium sacs. Make sure you cage is large enough, a say 30"H, 20"L, and 15" deep, with plenty of horizontal basking spots.
I owuld be careful with a trio, females can sometimes not get a long. Watch them and good luck

I would agree as well with the trios. We have very few trios in our breeding colony it usually doesn't work out with grandis. Definitely never worked for us with standings. We house most of ours in 22 gallon to 30 gallon tanks set up just like was mentioned. If you are looking to set up another pair let us know. We will have sexable grandis available in Daytona.
