canabalism/ aggression in leopards?????????????

WiG Nov 27, 2004 11:30 AM

Hi
i recently bought a Royal (Ball) Python and after a few days, bites and verbal assaults (from him) i realised we weren't destined to be. instead i got Leopard gecko (Finbarr) who is really cool, and a juvenile. he has his own 1 foot x 1.5 foot enclosure. this week though while in a pet shop i came across three hatchling leopards in a small box which had a floor littered with gecko crap and dead/dying crickets and litle or no moisture. (two were in the process of shedding, badly). i rescued the third who also looked like the healthiest and told the owner to moisten the other two and keep an eye on them. anyway, the point of my post is i had nowhere to put the little guy so i popped him in with the other to see how they'd get on. When the light goes off, Finbarr starts to stalk the little guy thinking hes food or something.
what are the chances he kills the little guy or will he just assert his dominance?
Would he maybe try to eat him?

We had some guy who claimed one gecko was swallowed by another when the size difference was only and inch.

Never put a smaller leo with another, generally leos shouldn't be with each other period, they don't need social interaction. And not to pick on you, but i've been reading a lot of post lately saying they "Saved" leos from horrible pet stores.

This is my opinion: you are NOT saving leos, you are ENCOURAGING the pet store and SUPPORTING their poor habits. If no one buys their animals (like in any store) and instead reports them to the SPCA or local authorities they will stop or shut down.
That's my rant for today

You didn't quarantine the little one, if the new little one was living in such poor conditions he/she may have disease and parasites, which are now being passed to all your animals.

Get a rubbermaid/shoebox, anything and keep the little one in there for now.

hey. it depends. are they the same size? that could be it. if the one thats stalking the other one is a male. its possible that it could be trying to breed with it.
