finally... SUCCESS with my new beardie

aimee_s Nov 27, 2004 11:33 AM

SORRY ITS LONG, I DIDNT REALIZE TIL THE END OF THE MESSAGE! OOPS I'm just excited as a new beardie owner... LoL

================

Hi everyone,

I got my beardie, Cookie Monster, on Sunday and posted my worries about him not eating. But, SUCCESS! The day before Thanksgiving, he was eating his greens and his crickets were gone !!! I was so happy!

He even kept crawling on the glass to get out, so I picked him up to explore, which he greatly appreciated. He looked at me for a little bit, then started going all over the place - taking cautious jogs before he would stop and lick the ground. My younger cousins (4 of them between 4 and 6 years old) sat on the couch watching him exercise everywhere and stopping to look at them as they were screaming in excitement. After a while I placed him back with their disappointed looks of not being able to hold him (I didn't want to stress him out just yet!)

Finally, Thanksgiving day and I see greens scattered all over the bowl and some leaves floating in the water dish. Cookie Monster was leaning against the glass trying to frantically crawl up. I didn't even need to pick him up because right when I put my hand in, he jumped over and crawled onto my palm. I let him roam and took pictures while he went out exploring. This time, I let my little cousins hold him for just a picture pose each. After that, they stroked his back very gently and admired him. I placed him back in the cage and he ate a couple more small leaves and was crawling endlessly against the glass before he finally started basking. After sanitizing their hands with the WIPE OUT 3: Antiseptic Hand Gel and washing their hands in the bathroom with soap and water, the younger ones sat around the table in admiration and softly saying "Hi Cookie Monster" before they ran down to tell their parents what they did.

Now, he just finished eating some breakfast with one cricket left running around. He was causing a ruckus in the cage - he keeps trying to get out and run onto the table that's holding the cage. Now that I'm finally done with this post, he stopped going nuts and is finally standing on the lower branch under the heat lamp.

I'm happy I wonder if any of you can tell. I'm really excited....

PICTURES OF THIS POST ARE COMING SOON!

That's Great, I'm so happy for you Sounds like you're doing a great job with him. I'm glad he's out of his adjustment period, seems like you got a great beardie!

Congrats! I know what it's like to get all giggly when they first came. Good luck with your little guy!

Thanks Marilee! Haha, "Giggly" IS the best word to describe me right now... and I've been like that since Cookie Monster started eating and going crazy with wanting to be held and allowed to explore farther than the glass walls of his cage.

Thank you for the luck and Happy Holidays Take care!

first off congrads...

2nd:

if you want to stop that running and clawing at the glass stuff (and i assume u have an aquarium?) then put paper up on 3 sides of the cage, then he wont do that any more, mine went nuts when he first got in his cage and was doing the same thing and he was all stressed out, then i put the paper up and he never claws at the glass anymore, except when i have a bag of crics ready to throw in then he trys to get them...

idk it worked for me :D

Thank you for the Congrats Wake !! I hope you're having a great holiday~

And yes, I do have a glass tank I did slide the paper up on the sides, but he still claws at it - when he manages to bring the piece of paper towel down, he climbs under it but tries to run through the glass until his nose brings him standing in the air. He got back out and just stood straight up and is leaning against the glass. He's so silly

He gave up though and now he's in his warm hide, trying to hide from the basking lamp above him but still getting the heat in. Maybe I should tape the paper to the glass?
