Can anyone tell me how to accurately sex a fowler's toad (Bufo fowlerii)?
Hi.
In general, here are the distinguishing characteristics between the sexes:
Males are smaller in size
Males have darker throats
Males are darker in color
Males call and females do not
Also, breeding males have enlarged, darkened nuptial pads on the dorsal surface of the thumbs that are used to grasp the female during amplexus. During the breeding season, the nuptial pads are the most useful characteristic to distinguish genders
I hope this is helpful.
Good luck.
Toads do not have genders - only sex. Only people have genders, which is the cultural construction of sex!!
