Hey guys, the info you inquired about on the pic I placed in the KS photo gallery. The pic was taken in late March 04 in KY at one of our study sites. This was in an area not far from Mammoth Cave National park. Our intent was to draw pine snakes, but as it turned out, we had created the perfect hibernacula for black king snakes. It seems that the rodent burrows under the tin that we laid was being fully utilized by king snakes. To say the least, we found no pine snakes, or any other snakes for that matter. I am a huge fan of king snakes, so to me it was a great find. For what its worth, all snakes were released after the pics were taken.

But that picture of Will holding all those Kings is even better. Can you post that again?

Ooops, somehow I made the pic huge. That much of me is kind of scary!
I love that pic too. You can just see the thrill on his face. I have that pic, but the disk is over Will's house rigt now. We are piecing together a digital presentation and I thought that would be a good pic to put on there.

that's quite interesting and very nice nigra, do i see a speckled one in the bunch? kinda looks like a holbrooks. My 04' nigra are so cool and it's gonna be neat to watch them grow.

Jetzen, all those snakes are very much nigra and are essentially in the heart of their range. As with any population of snakes, if you see enough from one area there will be some variation. Most from this locale are very dark. I think the snake that is showing so much pattern is seen from more of a side view.

Thanks Phil, - sweet pic! Any luck finding the snakes you were looking for in the first place?

Thanks Matt. We have found a pine snake, but it was from a different area of the state.
BTW, I saw the pic's of your Illinois bull snake on the Pit forum. Very nice snake. I keep Kankakee's myself.
