Blue Crested Gecko Morphs

Palex134 Nov 27, 2004 06:58 PM

Hanyone ever seen a blue crested gecko? I was looking through an old Reptiles Magazine and it was in a picture with two other pinstripe morphs. I have never seen one for sale or any other pics. Does anyone know what I am talking about or has anyone seen a blue crested gecko. any pics?

Also, I have bred leos before and was considering cresteds for a project becasue everyone says they are great lizards and rival leos as starting geckos. I was woundering if a pair or a trio would be a good investment and who ever breeds them how hard are they to breed? Any hints or tricks for keeping them?

i know the exact issue you are talking about. i believe it was edited to look like that or something was screwed up with the lighting. it was kind of a sky blue color if i'm not mistaken.
crested geckos are the easiest thing i've ever bred. great starter lizard. any other information is very easily found on websites. look around and come back with more specific questions.
all i can really tell you is don't let them get too hot( above 85 for extended periods of time) this is the the only reason i have almost had one die.

Well well here we are again, someone wondering where they can get a blue crested gecko. I too was a blue crested hopefull for a small period of time but alas they donot exist (well in the true since of the word). Blue cresteds are often slate grey cresteds close to shed. The slates do have a slight blue hue to them but honestlly most "blue cresteds" I see are about as blue as an apple. Crested geckos donot contain blue pigmentation in there epidermis, just as they are NOT known to posses green pigment. Now I know everyone is thinking "but I've seen green crested geckos" well not really. What you've infact seen is a olive crested (a mixture of yellow and brown). Having said all of that there are some very impressive olive cresteds that do well look green (seems to be just the right amount of mixing of pigments). Maybe one day someone will come up with the right genetic combo for a good looking blue. But I think that day is at least a couple years away if at all even possible.

definately just a mix of the yellow and brown as stated earlier.
green is an obvious mix of blue and yellow. which as stated earlier, cresteds do not contain the pigment blue. which therefore there are no blue, and no green cresteds.
(slate is a shade of grey, NOT blue)

kinda like how some "hill folk" call thier hound dog 'blue' the dog obvoiusly isnt a shade of blue, but rather gray

just my 2 cents

Yea shes going to be breeding next season! Shes a little young now. Did you give me an e-mail palex134?? If I cant sell you a crested that you want I know many other people and someone I know has to be selling what you are looking for! I breed them and I used to breed leopards and cresteds are WAY easier then leopards. I keep them in groups of 1.2-1.4 But I try not to keep more then 1.4 per cage because then the male cant keep up with breeding all the girls. Some hints or tricks to breeding them is mainly just keep the humidity up and offer food alomst every night. If they arent getting enough food then they wont lay any eggs and if its to dry they wont breed. All I do is mist there cage everynight! Heres a picture of one of my cages! THANKS ERIk
