Breeding Cresteds

Lizarddude720 Nov 27, 2004 09:37 PM

Hi

I know this is a commonly asked thing but one of my friends who bred her crested gecko said that males if kept in the cage with 1 female he would rape her to death. Know i never read this in any care sheet online but i woud like some other opions. If i did do that would it happen? If i kept 3 females in a 20h and a male in a 10 and put the females in the tank with the male 1 by 1 would any like that happen?

Thanks

Paul

If one male and female were kept in the same tank, the male would constantly want to mate with her. This could seriously stress the female out to the point where, over a long period of time, it could cause physical illness. Some breeders keep one male with several females that way the male won't constantly be wanting to breed with one female. The result, of course, is many eggs.
I've never heard of a male "raping" the female. Someone else is going to have to tell you whether that is possible.
Hope this helps!
