I'm new to the Amazon Tree Boa and I was wondering if there was anyone out there that could tell me what I need to know about owning one. Size, temperatures, humidity, temperament, etc. ? I'm just completely clueless and I would really appriciate any and all help. Thanks for your time

Size- They usually reach around six feet in length.

Terrarium temp.- Should be between 75-80 degrees F.

humidity- Humidity should be high. But not so high that everthing is damp dripping with water. Mist them daily.

Terrarium- I preffer to keep them in a cage measuring 2ft. long by 2ft wide by 4ft high. Also provide lots of branches and plants for him or her to climb on.

substrate- mulch works well for these snakes. It captures and contains humidity well.

feeding- feed him or her mice. Although if it is a hatchling it may only accept anoles.

snake temperment- Usually aggressive. But may tame down.

Hey Dan. Check out www.corallus.com and do some browsing there. Lots of good information all in one place. In a nutshell, Ammies average around 5-6 feet as adults, need temps in the low to mid 80's, humidity of 60-70% and are mostly very feisty (read: nasty!). Overall, if you have some measure of experience with some intermediate species and don't mind having a mostly "hands-off" snake, they can be very rewarding to keep! Good luck in your decision. Billy

Hi. I have a pair that is very calm and easy going. They are very easy to handle as well, and seldom show signs of agression. I know this may not be the general case with amazons, and they are considered to be very nasty, but there are exeptions.
