Beardie Not Growing Please Help Me!!!!!!

wsurugby10 Nov 28, 2004 11:31 AM

I have two bearded dragons, one male and one female. They are housed in the same tank but it is divided in the center. They have plenty of room and the temps are right. The only problem is that my male isn't eating like the female. I bought these guys about a month ago and the female is growing fast and shedding often. But the male doesn't seem to be putting on any weight. I see him eat. He eats greens everyday but he only eats about two or three crickets a day. I tried to feed him some worms but he shows no interest in them. He looks healthy and acts pretty normal. What should I do? Sorry about the length. Thanks for your time.

You said the tank is divided. Can they still see each other? Since you've only had them for a month, you should go ahead & schedule a ckeck-up for both of them at a qualified herp vet. Be sure to bring a fresh stool sample from each one, and mark the baggies so you'll know whose is whose.

Where did you purchase them from?

A fecal test is still a very good thing to get done. A load of parasites can affect the growth of an otherwise healthy dragon. How old are the dragons you have and are they from the same parents? IF they are from the same parents, then it won't be a good ideal to breed them later.

Is the small one well hydrated, with good basking temps of at least 95F? What is the substrate? You did mention the dragon is eating his greens which is good. Are you using that veggy dust T-Rex puts out? Try offering some pellets for baby orjuvenile bearded dragons as protein is needed for growth. You can try hand feeding worms (silkworms, butterworms or waxworms).

They are about 4 to 5 months old! They do all eat pellets as well as greens and roaches..they are healthy and we have done fecals on about 10 of them all from diffrent cages. they are know all on paper towels for about a month know but were on trex sand!

i just don't get it! could they be inbred? could they have been shipped out to soon they told us they were 3 weeks old but i don't think they were.

I am feeding him multiple times a day. He gets dusted greens and pellets in his salad and his temperatures are perfect. He is on sand substrate but he is pooping daily so that rules out impaction. He's about 4 months old and is from completely different parents than the female. When I try to hand feed him he shows no interest. Does anyone out there know how much a typical fecal examination costs? Thanks for your time

Are you feeding him multiple times per day??? If not it could just be he gets full fast, will be hungry again later in the day, and willing to take more crickets!
