I got the CGD...

nomadofthehills Nov 28, 2004 02:20 PM

one of them eats it if I put it on his nose... but my other one rubs it off with his feet... will he just eat it eventually? I have it in a baby fod lid on the floor of his tank...

Any tips to get him to eat it?

i have the cgd
it says mix 2 parts water to 1 part cgd and it will gel in a few minutes Twice i have tried last night i let it sit all night and it was still all watery! not even a lil gelled.
i asked the guy at the pet store today he said he just feeds it to them dry. how do u people get this stuff to work?

if it is to watery after mixing well and letting sit, just ad a little more powder. If it is to thick, ad more water. It's not an exact science. good luck

what's the humidity in the cage? if it's really high and you throw it straight in the cage it will never gel, just get moldy

Personally, I've never seen CGD really gel. It gets kind of thick, but I wouldn't consider it "gel". My crested eats it just fine, though!

When I mix the CGD it typically is about the consistancy of table cream. For an adult gecko or a couple juvi's I use one quarter teaspoon CGD to 1/2 teaspoon water. I mix in a small dish then give a quarter teaspoon of diet to juvies each, or all for adults. Left overs I put in the fridge and use them the following day or day after. By then it typically is a gell so I have to stir it to make more like puddin than jello.

Thank you for giving the exact measurements you use to make yours. Mine I kinda just mix and add and mix and add until it becomes a little thick - that's the closest to gel I can get. I'll try that tonight!

Mine is exactly the same... Mine's either watery or thick, never gels. I'll try letting it sit tonight a bit longer than usual before putting it in the cage. Didn't know if humidity made a difference or not in the actual gel process. He eats a little bit of it, but prefers baby food and crickets over the CGD.

And by USF, is that Univ. of SF?

or something else that is 100% fruit juice with as little sugar as you can find. use that instead of water and the slowly dilute the nectar/juice with water. that's what i did to get my adults to switch over.
