Brumation, I guess?

lizardfan Nov 28, 2004 02:37 PM

Well, My beardie's almost 3 years old and this is the first time that I think she might be brumating/hibernating. She sleeps all day long, gets mad at me if I go near her, but she's still hungry as a horse.

My question is, when beardies brumate, is it normal that when they do get up to get food or water, that they are really slow, groggy and kind of clumsy about it?

Like, when my beardie's about to attack her food, she normally stands on all fours and as she goes for the kill, she sways back and forth a bit. That she's always done... I fed her today after a long nap, and she was really lazy about it, and swayed more than usuall.

Just wondering. She doesn't seem sick or anything, just tired I gues..

It does sound like brumation, and sure is the time for it! Mine actually NEVER come out, but in the beginning they went in and out, like 5 days in and a few days out. I would keep an eye on her, make sure she is alright, maybe take a fecal in just in case. Lower the temperatures a little bit and see if that stimulates her to go into full out brumation. If she does not within a week or two, fix the temps and just keep a close eye on her.

Update us! Good luck!
