New RES Have questions Need some help please.

Sarah99 Nov 28, 2004 04:00 PM

I bought a RES at the Atlanta Reptile show last weekend and there seems to be a couple of problems...

He is eating like a chow hound and is very active, but I have noticed some white fuzz on his skin when I brought him home and put him in new water. Well I bought this spray that says it is for that, but after I used it, the next day I noticed something like blood pooled under one of his scutes(spell).I don't know if it is related or a whole seperate problem.

I have him in a temporary tank that is quarentined from my other animals and intend to keep him there for a few months. I am changing the water daily or every other day and have a small filter on the tank to make it even cleaner. He has a basking area with a UV lamp and a ceramic heat lamp right above it.

Somebody help please.

I don't know about the blood under the scute, but the white fuzz is probably there because you are overfeeding your turtle. Turtles never stop eating, it is up to you to control how much they get. Adults can be fed protein as little as once or twice a week, with greens provided daily. Babies smaller than 2 inches can be fed every other day, or a tiny amount every day, but no more than the size of their heads. They should also be provided with greens to munch on.

sounds like sepsis. You need to find a qualified vet to
check him out.
