Ways to convince parents....want a 1.1 of het albinos......

lilroach56 Nov 28, 2004 04:35 PM

Im trying to figure out ways to convince my parents to get me a 1.1 of het albino balls for christmas.

So far here is what they have asked that i haven't figured out a way to answer:

"Do we really need two more snakes?"
"What is a het?" (how can i explain it to my parents in a way that they can understand...i dont think they took anything biology or genetics related)
"What are you going to do with the extra babies?" (non albino ones/ 66% het females)
"There is no room in your room for more snakes" (we just "redid" my room so it was less crowded)
"What happens if they die" (they dont want $700+ go to waste)

Well for starters how old are you?? Who pays for the vet, food, snakes, enclosures??? As for for explaining the genetics I would go to either NERD or the snakekeeper and just summarize what they have.

I am trying to work on the "het" thing for you. What do you do with the money that you get for selling the babies?

lilroach56 Nov 28, 2004 07:23 PM

first-payback my parents
second-save
third-more ball pythons

You can show them a projected business plan, they'll see the value in the snakes. That's how I got my het albinos for this Christmas, but as a gift from my husband. I'm much older than 14! LOL He even offered to buy a Mojave for me if I hit my projected figures in 4 years.

Figure out the cost of feeding/care vs potential offspring. No cheating, be as accurate as you can. Include any future ball purchases. I found doing this really helps me keep working toward my goal.

I have 1.1 Nerd Pastels, 3 normal females, 1.1 albino hets (got 'em already!) and the use of my daughter's female adult normal and with a few additional purchases (1. pastel, .2 het albino and a few more normal females) I figure over the next 4 years I *should* realize about $14,000 profit (that's total over the 4 year period and I low balled the profit potential). That's when I'll quit my job and stay home to play with the snakes full time.

In 4 years time, that's about when you'll be starting college, perhaps you could play that up a bit, you know, extra income to pay for expenses. Good luck!

Best of luck...I never did figure out how to convince my parents to even let me snake-sit over spring break! Offering to clean my room didn't even work....oh well, I now have my own house and my own snakes, but the challenge is now...how do I convince the parents that it is safe to come over and visit? LOL

abster82 Nov 28, 2004 06:33 PM

BallPyFan-
I remember being told that I could have just about any pet I wanted the only rule was it had to have been born with legs!! I am out of my parent’s house now and will be getting my first snake this coming summer {female normal}. She has already said that she isn’t happy and doesn’t want to be around her unless she has to. I know exactly what you mean.

..I think you've hit on something there.
It has been a little quiet around here ever since i started, lol.

For the people who are in the parents house and having trouble...its hard to find a mom that wont flip the day you bring home a snake. My mom said she would throw it in the snow. They get better though... How to convince them to get 1.1 het albino. Well. I just told my parents the genetics are worth money when I spent a lot on snakes. That was simple enough for them (but then again it was my wallet). What if it dies? You will be sad but list the number of snakes that died on you so far. I would say it is better than a snowboard that will cost you a lot each season and make you nothing. "It is preparing for your future" is another good arguement. I have to say I am impressed you are 14 and you seem to know quite a bit from your posts I have read on here and repticzone. As far as not having room...ask for a rack system for your birthday. Good luck.

I sent you an e-mail that will hopefully help you. If you need anything just e-mail me back or IM me on yahoo. It's all the same.

I can get anything I want (well...almost anything) related to the ski and snowboard business (even vans and DC shoes, oakley and smith glasses, etc) for like 70% of retail due to connections my mom has. For my birthday (in october) my brother got me a snowboard a vision 155. Now for christmas (the ski/snowboard season around DC don't start until januaryish) i need to get some bindings and boots. Can't wait until spring break this year...copper mountain (CO)! Last year was sooo fun, i learned how to frontside 270 to boardslide and backside 360 from kicker. Snowboarding is a beast...but spring weather in colorado SUCKS!

Thanks for the compliments and ideas.

Do you know of any companies that custom builds racks? like for multiple size boxes?

Try Animal Plactics Inc.

It was nice. You get way more damaged on the boards than ball pythons. Tell them they will keep you safe.

lilroach56 Nov 29, 2004 04:56 PM

Copper is awesome. Like 100 times better than anything i've boarded (go Mid Atlantic Borders!). I remember on one of my lessons we went through the big park and it was amazing...the amount of talent out west when compared to back here is insane. How is copper this time of year? the spring is horrible.

It is nice...more snow than any other places but still not a ton. I was honestly not too impressed with the talent. Either was my friend when he was at winter park. He actually got a ton of attention and people were photographing him doing simple fronts (and many he didnt even land lol). I am a midwesterner and the talent here is amazing. I also think here the limits on how big you can make a jump in comparison to the hill is way bigger. I need to be pushed by a friend from the top of the hill to clear most those big gaps (like the jump in the picture..which in my opinion was a small one. They have had stuff up to 70 ft long from launch to peak of landing). Copper was fun though and the snow was nice but the night life was DEAD. Liquer store closed at 5!

lilroach56 Nov 29, 2004 07:52 PM

Spring Break last year (in coordination with the SIA & Transworld summit) had tons of people. The talent was much better than anything back here (ever boarded southern PA and western Va?) and the trails were pretty nice (except for the day when it was 60 then it started snowing later). I liked the park at copper.... it is about like 1/4 the size of my home mountain. I got some good video on my digital camera though.... it was ride the rails tuesday or something and this one guy tried to boardslide and landed wrong....he was lying down with a beanie full of snow over his balls for like 20 minutes....funny yet sad.

hahaha i wouldn't know about the nightlife . But over spring break there were a bunch of people. I remember at the end of one of the summit there was this party and they had this little ice sculpture that was like a luge course and they were doing shots down it. The bartender guy was like "hey....want some of this" and i looked back and there was this big mean cop stareing right at me and i was like "no way man....thats illegal" and the cop was like "good choice". I honestly think if i didn't say that the cop would have done something, can't stand cops....well maybe they cant stand me.
