Are there two different types of Thayeri?

krestes Nov 28, 2004 05:12 PM

And if there is a kingsnake and a milksnake version, how do u tell the difference? I see them advertised differently in the classifieds.
Thanks for helping,
Ken

Thayeri come in several varieties (for lack of the right word) and they are :
Leonis
Milkphase
Melanistic

and all thayeri are king snakes (Lampropeltus mexicana thayeri)

other kings in the same group are the san luis potosi (lampropeltis mexicana mexicana)

hope this helps and I'm sure some of the more knowledgable guys will correct me if I made mistakes.

Thanks,
Russ

Out of any pairing of thayeri you never really know what is going to be produced. This last year for example I bred two blacks to each other and got 2 blacks, 1 orange milk phase, 4 leonis phase. In another example we bred two high orange animals and ended with 3 buckskin, 2 high orange and 1 regular milk phase. Having a clutch of these guys hatch is like Christmas you never know what is going to pop out.

Hope that helps,

Ok ok, we'll move this along to parts where we are appreciated. I think the thread originator was confused on the terms surrounding thayeri variations.
