Help, this ig is about to die

edsonorellana Nov 28, 2004 06:15 PM

I live in los angeles, I have had this iguana for a year in a half. It is in a pretty big homemade cage but not big enough for it. I no longer can care for this iguana and I want to find a home for it. Any one in the LA area willing to take it in please contact me at nikywh@yahoo.com. I cannot keep it for more that a week because I am moving and connot take it with me. It does have MBD. Not too bad yet, I think there is still sometime to prevent it from progressing.

Thanks.

Ed, you have been on this forum before. I remember your screen name. What happened? You had access to all the correct care info. What went wrong? I suggest you post your iguana for adoption on the Green Iguana Society adoption page and on petfinder.org. Include lots of good pictures in your ads, that will help get more attention. Why are you just thinking of a new home for him a week before you leave?? Did you not know you were moving?

Why can't you take him with you? If you post him for adoption, why not just keep him with you until you find a new owner? If you can't find a new home or are unwilling to put in the effort to find one, I hope you will do the responsible thing and have your iguana euthanized, and not just abandon him somewhere. Do not release your iguana into the wild. That is illegal.

It really doesn't matter how you acquired this iguana, you have created this problem. Do not make it worse than it already is.

Well, I have to move in a week, I can mybe keeo him there for an extra week or so but eventually, once my room mate comes home, I have to give him away. I really tried with the iguana, but unexpected changes in my life have taken all the time I had for the iguana. I wish I could but I honestly can't. The MBD developed from his refusal to eat at times. He would go a week with out eating at a time. He's been eating lately and it has not progressed. Still his enclosure is too small, but it's too big for my new place.
I've thought it over, and the best thing is to give him a better home.

Again, if anyone can take him in, I'll get it to you. A foster home, permanent home, whatever. I won't just let him go, and I hope not to get him euthanized.

I'll check the links, any one else that can help, Thanks.

Hey there.

I don't mean to sound really judgemental, I know that sometimes these things don't work out. I hope the links she posted below help. I'm glad you're doing the right thing and finding him a home. Make sure to get some really nice pictures of him- it will attract so many more people, I'm telling you from experience. I got five responses in a week when I was trying to place a rescue, because I had great pictures and I posted him on multiple pages.

Best of luck, let us know when he finds a home.
